Eaton Corp. enjoys significant annual energy savings from implementation of energy efficient HVAC

Business Situation

Eaton Corporation is a Connecticut-based electronic controls and instrumentation supplier to the US Defense Department. EATON consists of two manufacturing facilities. Each facility needed replacement of aging and inefficient roof top HVAC units, as well as an energy-efficient lighting system. SavageALERT proposed an energy saving project to replace the aging equipment utilizing the Request For Proposal (RFP) program sponsored by The Connecticut Light & Power Company. EATON received $372,800 in incentives from the RFP program toward a total project cost of $482,800. EATON benefits by reducing their annual electric consumption by 30%.

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES

  • Reduce client's overall energy consumption.
  • Provide a Turnkey project for the customer.
  • Install energy efficient RTUs.
  • Design new energy efficient lighting system.
  • Utilization of lighting occupancy sensors to maximize savings.
  • Replace 20-ton condensing units.
  • Complete work within CL&P's deadline and with minimal disruption to Eaton's manufacturing processes.

BUSINESS SOLUTION

As part of the Turnkey services we provide our clients, SavageALERT worked closely with EATON personnel to identify all potential energy saving measures at both manufacturing facilities. Our engineers designed an enhanced HVAC system to provide significant electric savings and to meet EATON's increased cooling load. Our lighting engineers designed a new lighting system that increased the lumens per square foot and reduced electric consumption by 25%.

Working with our qualified subcontractors, SavageALERT designed a comprehensive, energy-efficient upgrade and replacement project for the utility rebate submittal. SavageALERT, on EATON's behalf, then submitted the project to CL&P's RFP program.

PPL SavageALERT worked with CL&P's program administrators and quality control engineers to ensure that the proposal met the requirements criteria of the RFP program and to ensure that the maximum utility rebate was secured for EATON.

SavageALERT the completed the final requirements of the RFP program by coordinating and attending the mandatory Quality Control and Verification Process to ensure EATON received their rebate in a timely manner.

RESULTS

SavageALERT produced a successful Turnkey operation from engineering to construction.

All work by SavageALERT was completed on schedule with minimal disruption to manufacturing and within the deadline set CL&P.

EATON Corporation was awarded an incentive of $372,800, equivalent to 69% of the total project cost.

PPL SavageALERT obtained incentives from the local utility for 69% of the project cost.
